Virginia Beach Art Center - Pottery Studio

This class is for beginner to intermediate students who want to continue building skills with the wheel as well as hand-building techniques.

In this 8-week course, each class begins with a project demonstration focusing on a new technique. Techniques explored include pinch pots, coil building, slab building, wheel throwing, press molding, and tool building. As students complete their projects there will be plenty of remaining time for practice on the pottery wheel. Students have access to wheels, slab roller, and other standard pottery studio tools.

All classes include a 15-visit punch card for Open Studio time for students to work on projects between classes.Open Studio access ends 10 weeks from the date of the first class.

Supplies Students Should Bring:

• Apron – will get dirty (that's the fun, right?)
• Hand Towel – will get dirty
• Basic Pottery Tool Kit
• Notebook/journal for notes, to track firing of your pieces, etc.

Supplies included:

• 25-pound block of brown or white clay
• Glazing and firing

No outside clay allowed.
