Raku Firing - Todd Starr, Michael Graham and Grey Barona
Saturday, August 9th, 12:30pm - 5:00pm (1 day workshop)
This Raku firing workshop offers a unique opportunity to experience the dramatic and unpredictable nature of this ancient pottery technique. Participants will learn about raku firing, prepare their own bisque-fired pieces, and then witness the exciting process of raku firing firsthand. This hands-on workshop allows for exploration of color, glaze effects, and the unique outcomes that raku firing produces.
What to Bring: Bisque-fired pieces to be raku fired, (5-inch x 4-inch small pots are ideal)
The following materials will be supplied to explore the various facets of raku:
Horsehair, sugar, sawdust for the horsehair technique at 1400°.
Flour, Yeast and water solution for Obvera At 1600°
White crackle glaze and a copper reduction glaze with reduction chambers at 1850°
For Safety:
Closed toed shoes, preferably of leather required. No nylon or plastic clothing. Natural fibers are preferred and less flammable. Hair must be tied back. Additional safety equipment will be provided.
Participants should be aware that Raku firing involves heat and flames.
