6-Week Portrait Drawing
Basic drawing skills recommended
Tuesdays, February 18th - March 25th, 10:30am - 1:00pm
Age: 16+
Introduction to Drawing the Portrait
Students will learn traditional methods of drawing the human face. The Medium is pencil and paper. Students need basic drawing skills.
Supplies:
Pencils in a set or individual 2b,4b,6b, and ebony.
Drawing Paper: size 18x24.
Drawing board and kneaded eraser.
Week 1. Full face frontal portrait. Line drawing
a. Learning to see and overcoming preconceived ideas.
b. Measuring for accuracy
c. Seeing planes of the face
d. Use of the envelope for establishing the head and features
Week 2. Profile line drawing
a. Measuring for accuracy use of negative space
b. Seeing planes of the face
Week 3. 3/4 view developing values
a. Measuring for accuracy
b. Seeing planes of the face
c. Value gradations
Week 4. Drawing different features: Eyes, ears, nose, mouth
Week 5. Continue drawing different portraits
a. How to photograph your subject for a portrait
Week 6. Same as above students may draw from personal photo
Photos for this class will be supplied by the instructor. Students will be encouraged to develop the final drawing from a personal photo.
