X 2024-A4 - Building An Abstract with Valerie White

Thursdays, October 17th - October 31st, 1:30pm - 4:00pm (3 week class)

Mixed Media Class - All Skill Levels
3-session weekly class

This 3-session series will explore the process and techniques for building a strong and compelling mixed media abstract painting.

Lesson 1: The Magic of Contrast - through a series of exercises, you will explore how to create visual interest through the use of contrast in color, shape, line, and texture.

Lesson 2: Creating a Strong Foundation - you will begin creating your own mixed media art piece by building underlayers using techniques learned in lesson 1.

Lesson 3: Finishing Touches - you will learn how to examine your piece to add the final splashes of color, line, and contrast to produce a compelling painting you will love!

SUPPLY LIST:

• Basic set of Acrylic Paints (black, white, red, blue, green, yellow) plus any other colors you like
• Watercolor Paper (any size) (class 1)
• One 16x20 Canvas or larger (class 2)
• Brushes (assortment)
• Palette Knives (preferably metal)
• Palette or paper plate for mixing paints
• Modge Podge or Regular Gel Matte Medium (use as glue)

** I will provide some of the following optional items to experiment with so do not feel obligated to purchase everything; bring what speaks to you **

• Optional: High flow acrylic paints or inks; acrylic paint pens
• Optional: Charcoals, pencils, oil pastels
• Optional: Papers for mixed media such as newspaper, tissue paper, cards, receipts, magazines, tags
• Optional: Stencils
