Beginner, Intermediate to Advanced with Robert Hitt - Wednesdays 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Build on your skills with hand building and wheel thrown pottery.

March 8, 2023 to April 26, 2023, Wednesdays 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Number of Classes: 8
Ages: 18 - 99
Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

Virginia Beach Art Center - Pottery Studio

This is a loose-class for those who desire to bring their own ideas to the clay and pottery studio and receive help and instruction in executing them. Ideas can be wheel thrown, hand built, or a combination of the two. Instructor Robert Hitt will demonstrate a technique and then students have access to wheels, slab roller, and other standard pottery studio tools to either practice that technique or work on projects of their choice.

A student will walk away from the class with knowledge of the pinch and pull method, coil, slip and scoring using clay. In addition students will learn the slab method in clay with additive and subtractive methods using clay to create a 3D object. Glazing techniques will also be taught.

This class explores a variety of hand building techniques used to create basic to complex forms. All skill levels are welcome, and every artist is encouraged to share unique approaches and finished pieces.

Class includes access during Open Studio for students to work on their projects outside of class. Open Studio access ends 2 weeks after the class ends unless student is signed up for the next session.

Shelf will need to be emptied on the last day of class unless student is signed up for the next session.

No outside clay is allowed
