Virginia Beach Art Center - Pottery Studio

Students of all levels are welcomed, from beginner to advanced. Every project demonstrated in class can be modified to make it unique to your skill level and aesthetic.

Our class will explore all concepts of hand building using primarily slab form and templates. Exploring patterns and texture we will create a mix of functional wear and décor items centered around a theme, to fit the season, making each 8-week session unique. While I do instruct a demo session each class, you are welcome to work on your personal collection with guidance as needed.

To take your piece to the next level- we will discuss and practice multiple forms of surface design such as the use of texture, sprigs, sgraffito, carving, monoprinting, decorative transfers and more.

Students will gain confidence and skill in glazing techniques throughout the session by demonstration and hands on application giving your piece a one of a kind finish.

All classes include an open studio punch card for students to work on projects between classes. Open Studio access ends 10 weeks from the date of the first class.

A 25 lb. block of clay comes with the class, and more is available for purchase. No outside clay is allowed.

Supplies needed: basic pottery tool set, notebook, apron and hand towel.
