Virginia Beach Art Center - Pottery Studio

Description of the class:

Students will use hand building techniques (pinch pot, coil, slab, and building solid) to create projects that have personal meaning to them. Students are asked to bring several of their own ideas to the first class. Consider what draws you to a piece. Maybe it’s the color palette, the emotion it evokes, or connection to a memory. Do you want your projects to have a functional use? Are you more likely to pre-plan and sketch, or do you prefer to use templates and videos? Maybe you work intuitively and let the clay do the talking! Do you want to make a few larger pieces (under 14 inches) or a collection of smaller pieces? If you’re short on ideas, the instructor has many. We will also explore glaze combinations and techniques during this class.

The class is suitable for beginner to experienced students.

All classes include a 10-visit punch card for Open Studio time for students to work on projects between classes. Open Studio access ends 10 weeks from the date of the first class.

A 25 lb. block of clay comes with the class, and more is available for purchase. No outside clay is allowed.

Supplies needed: pottery tools, apron, towel and small notebook
